Action & Adventure Editorial Review
**** The Shout Factory Blu-ray release of *The Great Waldo Pepper* has garnered accolades for its notable improvements over previous versions, particularly the Universal 2010 DVD. Director George Roy Hill’s tribute to the barnstorming aviation era captures the thrills and challenges of early flight with remarkable authenticity. Fans of the film appreciate the restoration of Henry Mancini’s original score, which significantly enhances the viewing experience. The Blu-ray features an excellent print quality and a properly formatted Todd-AO 35 aspect ratio, providing vivid visuals crucial for appreciating the film's stunning aerial cinematography. Commentators commend the film's mix of action and depth, praising its ability to evoke a sense of adventure while delivering poignant narratives about friendship and ambition. The Blu-ray not only encapsulates the cinematic essence of the 1975 classic but also provides new layers for re-evaluation, thanks in part to contemporary discussions, like those featured in *The Video Archives Podcast*. Customer reviews frequently highlight the genuine thrill of aerial stunts performed by the actors, lending credence to the physicality of their performances—an element often diluted by today’s CGI. The film’s engaging storytelling, remarkable character arcs, and real sense of peril contribute to its reputation as an enduring classic worth revisiting. Overall, Shout Factory's release has breathed new life into *The Great Waldo Pepper*, making it a recommended purchase for fans of vintage cinema and aviation enthusiasts alike. **
