- Balkanlar ve Türkler etle tırnak misali, birbirinden ayrılamazdı. Türkler o topraklar için kanını dökmüş, o topraklar da Türkleri bağrına basmıştı. Balkanlar'da yaşayan Türkler için Drina vatan toprağıydı.İkinci Dünya Savaşı'nın sert rüzgarları insanları savurup köklerinden koparmadan önce Drina sokaklarında gezen Türkler, gün gelip o sokaklarda cehennem azabı çekeceklerini bilemezlerdi. O güne kadar barış içinde yaşanan topraklarda artık istenmez olmuşlardı. Tito öncesi Yugoslavya'da hüküm süren Alman idaresi kendilerine yakın gibi görünse de Türkler, vatanlarında, yani Yugoslavya topraklarında artık can güvenliğinden yoksunlardı. Balkan'ı mesken tutmuş çetecilerin katliam ve tecavüzleri de giderek Türkler üzerine yoğunlaşıyordu. Canlarını kurtarmak için kaçmaktan başka çareleri yoktu.
